The 7th of February- short

It snowed.  I shoveled.  I wrote 2 quick poems to go with the shoveling...

#1
Shovel, shovel toil and struggle
Clearing the path to my hovel
Down, down the snow is falling
I am pushing and hauling
Inside I go to warm up
A warm cup of tea to sup

#2
Double shovel toil and struggle
Cleaned again the path to hovel.
About 4 and a half inches on the roof of my car
Heading off to work, the first stop is not very far.
:p

Today my happy is getting home alive and with no accidents.   The roads are slippery.

Wet hat.

Just over 4.5 inches on top of the car.

Monday February 6th

Today is a big work day so I don't really do anything but think about hiking.  Lately that thinking involves how much I want my knee and back to stop hurting so I won't feel like I am damaging them.

Happy things for today...

While working in a grocery store a Song starts playing, as they tend to do.  From the next aisle I here a young voice singing along.   Very cute hearing the little one singing "Shut up and dance with me" and he seemed to know-or at least think he knew- many of the words.  I am guessing he was around 4 years old.

Another thing that happened is someone came up to see if I knew where something was.  He was an older Asian man who spoke heavily accented English but he couldn't come up with the name for what he wanted.  So he was saying that he wanted a cup for cream.  He held his fingers in a circle which implied a small cup.  I didn't get it.  I was thinking cream, like half and half.  I was also thinking cup like custard cup.  After a few more tries and him saying that he couldn't think of the word he points to the ice cream and mimics eating an ice cream cone!  I got it!  He wanted to know where the ice cream cones were!  I felt like we won a game of charades!  Accents are an interesting thing... some I can understand fairly well and others not so much.  This man could have had a much heavier accent, I understood what he said, he just couldn't think of the word.  Sometimes the people that I help find things stick out in a good way, this was one of those times.

February 5th-Superbowl Sunday

This morning I slept in-that was nice.  I did  few little things around the house and then went to Fun World, a nearby arcade type place, to help my grandson celebrate his 5th birthday.  I played too many games that reminded me of my youth and I am rejoicing in the fact that this place is far enough away to be inconvenient.  If it were closer to home or on the way to something I frequent, I would be in major debt.  It was fun to play Skeeball and Centipede again, even if just for a little while.

After that, food was eaten and then we went to Sub Zero for ice cream.  I hadn't been to one before and it was kind of fun to watch them freeze my ice cream the way I wanted.  If I go again I will experiment with other flavors.  I chose caramel, which was very good, but there were many other non-chocolate options I could have tried.

Then I went to a friend's to watch the Superbowl.  I am not a football person.  I have many friends who are though and I like spending time with my friends.  I am starting to understand the game a bit better though and found the game quite enjoyable.  Maybe it helps that the Patriot's won, after coming out from way behind and that this was the first ever Superbowl to end up in overtime.

The happy things for today are family, friends and football.

Saturday the 4th of February

Well, more stuff went away today.  Bye-bye stuff!  Sorting and visiting and work is mostly how I spent my day.  I am looking forward to curling up for some nice peaceful sleep.  I had a visit from a cousin today.  She looked at the house and shared some ideas and helped me sort through some things.  My son is heading back to Kansas tonight.  ðŸ˜  Tomorrow is a party for my grandson and a Superbowl party in the evening.  Monday will be back to work.

Today my happy is that my son was able to come home for a visit, even if just for a little while.  Happy that my cousin visited today too.

Sun coming up.  I really need to wash my window.

February 3rd-Gideon turns 5

Five years ago I became a grandmother.  It ranks in the top 3 days of my life, the other days being the births of my 2 children.  I visited tonight and watched while he danced with the robot toy from his Nana and helped him put together the Kaleidoscope from his Aunt Des and listen to the thunder roar with the Thunder making instrument that my son got him.  Sunday there will be a party and I hope to have his gifts together for him by then.  I forgot to bring what I had today because of work and really want to add to it.

I got a clean bill of health from my Gynecologist today (sorry if that is TMI) and I have a follow up with my primary care next week.  The dental stuff is almost done.  Now I just need new glasses and a spare pair for the hike.  That will take care of medical stuff as best I can I think.

Gideon is my number one happy for today.   Having my doctor tell me that I seem much more like myself today than when she saw me a few weeks ago is number 2.  :)

Ugh, I am supposed to remember these things...

Happy Groundhog Day!

Until sitting down to write this I didn't remember that today is Groundhog Day.  According to the some website, Punxsutawney Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter.  So far the winter has been very mild and I found some snow pants today so I am okay with some more winter.  If only my heat worked better...

My kids came over today and more stuff got sent to Goodwill or thrown away.  My daughter has been telling me for years how I will feel so much better when I have less stuff weighing me down.  I knew she was right, but was in too much of a funk to do much about it.  Even with so little done though, I am feeling better already.  The Hike is starting to look more like a possibility.  Now if work would be more predictable I could plan things better.

Today my happy is memories.  While going through stuff brought back memories, I am still glad the things are gone.  We looked at stuff and got rid of most of it.  There are things I was saving from grade school.  There were a few dresses that I will most likely never fit in again that are gone.  A T-shirt from a Who concert in 1989 and one from Rush's Hold Your Fire tour.  My son said the lady at Goodwill was surprised at the quantity of clothes we were getting rid of.  No question, I keep too much stuff.  This is changing now and that makes me happy.  Unfortunately my daughter took the pictures of the stuff so I don't have them handy.

Sun setting.

Beautiful sky.

Happy February!

This morning I looked over the AT Guide and estimated that we will need to leave by the end of March to be in the PA/NY area for a ride to Pennsic.  I need to get busy!

This morning I learned of the death of someone I know, younger than me.  So sad for his wife and all of us friends.  :(

Foot pyringd

As I dig deep for my happy I remember early on in my day I was chatting with someone.  I *think* I helped her feel a little better.  She had a problem with some folks and I know I didn't make it better, but I think I did remind her that she is loved and not everyone out there is a jerk.

I also got a text message from the gate keeper from the event.  We had misplaced $350.  We thought it had been a deposit but couldn't find it.  Turns out it was a deposit, only from early on in the day, so when we tried to find it with what was left to deposit, it wasn't there.  That is another happy.
