The 28th of October--Blah

This morning we went to the Farmer's Market.  It is the last one of the season/year.   We had a breakfast of donuts and whoopie pies with some ice cold milk.  Gideon went in his vampire costume and collected some more goodies.  He seemed to have a good time.  I went off to work and got home in time for his parents to go to a Halloween party.  We all could have gone and come home early for Gideon to not be out too late.  I wanted a quiet night to sit around and watch movies, child appropriate Halloween ones with Gideon.  This allowed his parents to go out and have a fun date night, I hope.   

Gideon and I couldn't agree on the movie and so I just let him choose.  He chose Spooky Buddies.  After about 20 minutes into it he decided it was too scary and so we started watching a series-Super Monsters.  Anyhow, he ended up not being crazy about that one either and then was upset because his parents weren't home.  So instead of us having a fun time snuggling on the couch watching a movie and eating popcorn, we had an okay time doing these things followed by an upset lonely boy who keeps wanting to be left alone (not be with me) followed by him wanting someone with him.  But I am not supposed to cuddle or rub his back or speak to him.  Blah.  He has a food sensitivity to some food colors and had some colored candy last night.  The sensitivity tends to make him get upset over things that normally wouldn't be a problem.  My son had this problem with food coloring when he was little too.  Hopefully, in the morning, it will be out of his system.

Enough of my complaining.  Today my happy is the pumpkin whoopie pie I had for breakfast.  It was sweet and delicious!

27th of October--Short but many random pictures

Thank goodness it is Friday!  Or maybe not.  Students were not as well behaved as they usually are today.  Partially because of it being a Friday, but also they had a dance tonight and Halloween is coming up.  So there was a bunch to be excited about if you were a student.  After school I got one of my other jobs done and then went home to be able to go out to Halloween Howl (Link) with the family.  That was fun.  So many cool costumes.  The Halloween Howl is my happy for today.

October 26th-Thursday

One of the classes I am a para in is Tech Ed.  The 7th graders have been designing and building CO2 race cars.  I have been trying to spread myself among all the students and staying mostly with the ones that are the most behind.  So while i have been working with the ones still in the design faze, the teacher has been in the room with all the power tools.  Today I got to go in there and learn/teach how the cars get filed and sanded down.  It isn't very difficult, but I did have a hard time explaining it to one of the students.  I tend to get a little nervous sometimes and I can't come up with simple terms like the 'grain of the wood'.  If I am still in that class next quarter hopefully I will remember terms better.

After school there was a function where a condensed version of Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven was read aloud, there were Poe trivia questions and snacks.  It was fun.  I met some of the other teachers.  There were a few parents that came too.  They also did an activity where each person at the table writes a sentence without seeing what the others wrote and that makes a short little story.  It was all supposed to be spooky/scary of course.  I have to admit that I was rather anxious being there.  For starters, scary stories aren't what I tend to go for.  But mostly because it was being with people that I don't know well and on a different platform than the normal work environment. 

The Edgar Allen Poe function was put on partially by my friend who teaches at the school and told me about the job I now have as a para.  Before leaving I made a point of thanking her for helping me get this job.  She let me know about it and edited my resume and gave me some general info about the job.  I have been meaning to thank her for weeks but we really don't bump into each other often and when we do the timing isn't right.  Letting her know that I am grateful and like my job is today's happy.  If that seems like an odd thing to be happy about, please read this article.

The 25th of October

My daughter made an awesome Roasted Acorn Squash soup for dinner tonight.  It is very yummy.  She has been looking forward to autumn and making soup.  Autumn has arrived but the cool weather isn't quite here yet.  The temps were in the upper 60's today.

                                               

After almost falling asleep at the wheel driving home from work today, repeatedly, I went for a walk when I got home.  I sat down for a moment and almost fell asleep again when I dragged myself up and just did it.  I knew I needed to walk at least 3 miles to reach my step goal for today so I planned on 4.  My end number was 4.23 miles.  Unfortunately this song was going through my head.  It is kind of a sad song.  I still arrived home uplifted and much more awake than when I left.  However, every time I tried to think poetry that song popped into my head and I couldn't come up with anything.  I would really like to get back into the routine of writing a poem when I go for a walk.  Mostly they were corny but every now and then I think there was a good one.

October 24th--just the happy

Today I was able to finish the second job so I don't have to work at it tomorrow.  When I finished there today I stepped out to go to my car and the air on the breeze was all perfect to go for a walk.  Warm for October with a breeze that was cool but not enough to be chill.  By the time I got home it was raining so I skipped the walk.  Having dry footwear is my excuse.  That and I am falling asleep writing so sleep may be more important.  Looking forward to not having to work my second job tomorrow is today's happy. 

For the last few years I have been participating in the Making Strides fundraising walk as part of a cousin's team.  She always has a gift basket for the team members with buttons and pens and such.  ↓↓This year this key chain was in my bag.↓↓  

My father had been on that Fire Dept so this is rather special for me.  💟

October the 23rd--just the happy

Monday is the day I try to get to my post office box and pick up my mail from my former address.  I didn't get there last week so there was quite a bit there today.  One of the things that arrived is my Paraeducator certificate.  Yay!  I'm official now.  Tomorrow I will bring in my paperwork and feel all professional and stuff.  😉  That is my happy for today.

Sunday, the 22nd of October--lot's of pics

Last night, as I was packing up, one of the cats decided that I had been there long enough and she was safe to jump up and spend the night on my bed.  I let her.  The allergy medicine I have been taking is mostly working.  There is a short video on yesterday's Blog when she was climbing around.  When I got up this morning, she seemed upset that I went upstairs.   She isn't the one that tends to meow, but she did when she realized I wasn't going back downstairs.  I got all my packing done and stuff out and left to go to the Making Strides event.  Gideon was dropped off shortly before the beginning of the walk and went with me.  He seemed real tired but he stuck it out and did all of it.  I thought  that they might have been out late last night.   At one point I turned on some music to help him move a bit faster.  After we went to lunch at a cousin's and after having some food (where he wow'd some of the people) and watching some football he fell asleep on the couch.  When I finally decided to leave and woke him up he said he hadn't been asleep.

We then went for a quick stop to my aunt's house.   Gideon was still not really himself.   He didn't seem excited to see people and he just sat in the living room zoning on the TV.  Within about 30 minutes when we checked on him again,  he was hot and flushed-he had a fever.   He and I left for home right away.   His temperature by the time I got back to the house was over 103 degrees.   Thankfully the medicine they got into him worked well and he is back to himself now.  My daughter tends to spike really high temperatures, too.

Using music to entice Gideon to move faster on the walk today is today's happy.   At that point I thought he was just tired.  Hindsight, I should have known better.
