The 15th of September

Opening the door of my car I almost feel blasted with the sounds of frogs and crickets.  Have I been in the city for so long?  I get my belongings and head for the house.  This weekend I am house/cat sitting for some friends.  On the way to the door I think that if I still had a backpacking tent, I could have brought it and camped in their backyard.  They don't live in the woods, there are neighbors on all sides, but it also isn't the city like where I have been and they have a yard.  Opening the door to the house I am greeted by one of their two cats.  The other soon joins for some scritches, but is a bit more shy and backs away.  I feed them and it is the shy one, Cloe (sp?), that comes to eat first.  Heather, the older of the two, stays back now.  I decide to let them lead.  They are cats after all, if they want attention, they will come to me for it.  Besides, I am mildly allergic.  I have been taking allergy medicine for the last couple of days to prepare, but it may not be long enough for them to be very effective.  Thus ends my day.

Earlier I had school and after I was supposed to meet with a friend.  When that was canceled, I decided to drive home using some back roads and then head off to my other job before coming here.  Then my daughter called and let me know that my aunt, cousin and cousin's son (like a nephew to me) would all be in town and wanted to know if we wanted to join them for an early dinner.  I hadn't seen them in a while and jumped at the opportunity.  It was really great to visit.  Gideon was happy to see them too.  When we were finished eating he read everyone's fortune cookie to them and compared lucky numbers.  My nephew is looking to buy a house.  I am so happy for him.  I think he is mulling around the idea of joining me for some of the Appalachian Trail.  Those plans are all wonky now, but I still plan to have a private group of friends and family that can join me for part if they want.

With all the unexpected activity I didn't go to my second job today, I will get that done tomorrow.  Getting to spend time with family was more important today and that is today's happy.  Now I think I will put myself to sleep by researching backpacking tents again.

This morning's sunrise on the way to work.
