August 6th- Pennsic day 5--edited with pictures

This morning I retained for my Baroness.  What is this thing called retaining one might ask?  This Link explains some of how that is done for Royalty in the SCA.  Retaining for a Landed Baroness or Baron can be as intensive as for Royalty,  but usually isn't.   If you don't feel like going to the link,  it is basically following them around and making sure they eat,  drink,  get where they are going and such.  We went to watch some of the smaller fights.  It was fun.   I don't tend to watch much of the fighting.  Chivalry isn't dead on the battlefields at the Pennsic War 46.

When I got back to camp my daughter and son in law had arrived.   So good to see them and really weird not to have Gideon here.   We went to the Arts & Sciences display and saw some interesting things.   We arrived a little late so I didn't get to see everything.   There was some lovely illumination and needlework as well as many other things.  One thing that sticks out that I hadn't seen before were playing cards that were made from some sweet confection then painted and were completely edible.

There was a pot luck meal at our encampment in the evening where people who live in our Barony and friends gather   to kind of welcome each other to the War.

A little after dark some ladies from camp didn't have enough steps for the day and we went walking.   Yes,  we know it isn't medieval to use a pedometer,  but staying healthy is a good thing.   We don't abandon everything modern to be here,  although some come very close.   Any how,  a King from down south started talking with us.  So another nice encounter with someone we hadn't met before.

Today my happy is all the lovely things at the Arts & Sciences display.   My phone died so no pictures of that.   When I have free WiFi again,  there will be pictures of some of the fighting.
