Friday afternoon...
Sitting under the common tent hoping the rain will end soon. This morning I had thoughts of attending classes, and if the rain clears enough, there is another I would still like to attend.
My son and I spent part of the morning preparing for the impending storms and helping put up a sheet wall to keep the dust somewhat out of the encampment. The sheet wall didn't quite make it up before the sky opened. Dust from the road isn't a problem now though.
Rain stopped!
Later...
So I made it to a class called Bliault Revisited. The instructor has been studying the Bliault since the 1980's I think she said. Here is a Pinterest link with some pictures to show what I am talking about. The instructor learned medieval French in order to research more about this gown. It is my favorite style, but not always practical.
I currently have 3 styles of medieval clothing (garb) that I tend to wear. The Bliault is theoretically the style I wear that goes best with my 11th to 12th century Norman persona. Early on in my SCA life I also started wearing bog dresses which are basically a tube attached at the shoulders. I tend to get overheated easily so these are my hot weather go to. Bog dresses are an earlier time span. The third style I now wear is called a sideless surcote. I started wearing these because my daughter gave me hers. I like them though and have made one for myself now too. I will try to get some pictures of people in garb that I can post once I have free WiFi.
After class I headed to the store to get some cheese and corn chips to go with the veggie chili I hope to heat up for myself shortly. The sky keeps opening up though, in a big way. Also, my tent is leaking. I really hope tomorrow will be clear and things will dry out.
Very late...
The rain stopped around dark and the chili was really good. Glad I bought the corn chips and cheese to go with it. Some more friends arrived that I got to spend time with. One friend has some similar hand problems only it is mostly in her thumbs. I let her try my putty and she is hooked. They are leaving site for supplies on Sunday and are going to try to find some.
Other than friends my happy for today is getting to play cribbage tonight. I haven't played in years! I need to find a better way to shuffle cards though...
